ESR 6 - Pamella Marie Sendon
Development of Novel Mouse Models Carrying Specific Mitochondrial DNA mutations
I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Biology Major in Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Philippines and a Master of Agriculture Major in Agronomy at Kyungpook National University, South Korea. I worked at the International Rice Research Institute tackling on abiotic stress-tolerance in rice and at the Institute of Plant Breeding-University of the Philippines Los Baños on genomics-assisted discovery of molecular markers in sugarcane for disease resistance.
Immersion on the above mentioned has helped me acquire a range of scientific research experience and although my background is more on molecular plant biology, I have always wanted to explore and dig deeper in the field of biomedical science, specifically, mitochondrial biology. By joining the ITN REMIX, I hope to understand how mutations and other genetic perturbations may lead to mitochondrial dysfunction and how they are associated to ageing and human diseases.
